Deaf Artisans of Knoxville (DAKs):you are invited to show and sell your wares at the UT-KCD Interpreters Conference, November 30th and December 1st at KCD. The Conference begins Friday evening and runs from 5:30-9P AND Saturday, December 1st from 8:30A-5P. If you would like a table to display your goods (Pampered Chef, Stamping Up, LongerBarger Baskets, etc) send Bob Rittenhouse an email at brittenhouse@kcdtn.org. There is no charge to the Artisans, although donations to KCD are accepted. For Immediate Release Nov. 8, 2007 DOLLYWOOD HOSTS DEAF AWARENESS DAY DEC. 2PIGEON FORGE, Tenn.—Dollywood hosts Deaf Awareness Day on Dec. 2 during the park’s annual Smoky Mountain Christmas festival. Deaf Awareness Day at Dollywood includes interpretation of various shows, attractions and craft demonstrations. Interpreters will be on hand to assist hearing impaired guests throughout the day. They also will be available to assist guests in locating key park locations such as turnstiles, restrooms, first aid stations and information booths. An interpreter will be on hand for the park’s weekly church service at 5:30 p.m. in the Robert F. Thomas Chapel. “Dollywood is especially proud of its participation in Deaf Awareness Day,” said Barbara Joines, VP/General Manager of Dollywood. “Through the talents of the many wonderful interpreters along with our employees, Dollywood’s attractions and entertainment are showcased to a most receptive audience.” The University of Tennessee’s Educational Interpreting Program coordinates interpreters for Deaf Awareness Day at Dollywood. DEAF-BLIND CONSUMERS & SUPPORT SERVICE PROVIDERSThe Knoxville Center of the Deaf would like to call a special meeting for Saturday, December 8, from nine o'clock a.m. to 12 noon. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the 2008 budget for D/B fund and discuss the SSP situation. Deaf/Blind consumers are responsible to get your SSP/interpreter during the meeting. SSP will get the paid when they are working as an interpreter. KCD will pay each SSP $10.00 per hour. NEWSTWO KCD FAMILIES NEED YOUR HELP:there are two families who need help with Christmas presents for their children (six of the 8 children involved are deaf) and food. The parents all are deaf and live in the Knoxville area. The deaf children will be home all day for two weeks during the holidays.
